Himoinsa, a leading international company in the manufacture of generator sets, and Repsol, a global multi-energy company, which is leading the energy transition and has set itself the goal of being zero net emissions by 2050, have teamed up to offer their customers in Spain and Portugal a turnkey solution for electricity generation
through the use of LPG generator sets, a transitional power source recognised by the European Union as an alternative fuel in Directive 2014/94/EU, and which can also generate savings in machinery operating costs.
“LPG, in addition to saving money compared to traditional fuels at the moment, is considered a transitional power source and reduces carbon emissions and other important pollutants such as CO2, NOx and particulate matter,” noted Manuel Aguilera, Global Gas Unit Head, who explains that "Himoinsa is committed to generating electricity with gas as a vehicle for using fuels with a low carbon footprint".
Himoinsa’s commitment is to promote the transition towards a sustainable solution by combining diesel generators with alternative energy solutions (biodiesel, battery, storage, hydrogen, etc.) with the LPG generator set being one of the key products in this transition process. In this context, “this agreement with Repsol has been a strategic decision to guarantee a comprehensive gas power solution to our customers,” added Aguilera.
Himoinsa has an extensive portfolio in gas power generation with equipment ranging from 30 to 3,000 kVA (LPG, NG and Biogas), including also a pioneering solution for a generator set with integrated LPG storage (patent pending) that can be connected to an external liquefied gas tank to extend its running time if required. “And in this context, our agreement with Repsol is key. Our commitment is to make life easier for companies looking for gas power solutions, which is why, thanks to this collaboration, Himoinsa provides a state-of-the-art gas generator and Repsol guarantees the supply and storage of fuel wherever it is needed,” added Manuel Aguilera, Global Gas Unit Head.
Félix de Orduña, LPG Commercial Director at Repsol, stated that “Repsol offers different LPG supply options, depending on the needs of each of our customers. On the one hand, there are those who need long-term, intensive generator set operating running time, using traditional bulk gas tanks and skids; and on the other hand, those who require a shorter operating running time, and therefore we offer a supply container with canned gas. We have developed an approved metal structure with nine 35 kg propane gas containers, which comply with all safety standards and can be easily transported.” Furthermore, “this agreement with HIMOINSA consolidates our position as a multi-energy company committed to the goal of achieving zero net emissions by 2050, being the first company in the sector to adopt this ambitious goal,” added Félix de Orduña.
This has led Himoinsa and Repsol to draw up a joint action plan for 2023, with the aim of bringing this comprehensive solution closer to its customers. It is estimated that gas power generation is set to grow by close to 40% over the next five years, guaranteeing low emissions and minimal noise levels, two features that are very popular with rental companies, especially in the case of events and the use of this equipment in urban areas, where regulations are becoming increasingly strict.
