HIMOINSA generator sets used in construction of new oil platforms in Mexico

The reform of Mexico's energy sector signed into law on 20 December opened the door for private companies interested in investing in the country's oil sector. Though Mexico was one of the first countries to nationalise its oil industry, it has lagged far behind Venezuela, Brazil and Colombia, which attracted over $100 billion of foreign financing, in liberalising this sector. This is why the Mexican oil industry is currently considered to be at an interesting threshold, promoting energy generation and with major projects in the pipeline.

HIMOINSA, the multinational specialist in energy generation systems, supplied over 150 diesel generator sets for oil extraction in Mexican fields in 2013.  In recent months there has been a surge in requests from companies operating on remote, isolated off-shore platforms that are not connected to the public grid.

The construction of new oil platforms, as a result of which the NAUTIC GROUP recently secured a contract for the provision of grouting services as part of the installation of four new offshore platforms in the Gulf of Mexico, has boosted demand for generator sets. HIMOINSA Mexico, via the rental multinational Red-D-Arc, part of the Airgas Group and HIMOINSA's partner in Mexico since 2011, has supplied 25 and 375kVA generators to power the pumps that will be used in the skirt pile grouting of each eight-legged platform. These platforms  are located at -120 metres water depth in the Ayatsil-Tekel field, approximately 120 km northwest of the Mexican city of Ciudad Del Carmen.

NAUTIC, a specialist engineering contractor engaged in the inspection, repair, maintenance and installation of offshore and subsea structures ,will mobilise a state-of-the-art Silo System to store and continuously supply high quality grout at a pumping rate of up to 25 tons per hour, for which it has requested a power supply provided by HIMOINSA generator sets. Juan Pablo Basich, Manager of HIMOINSA Mexico, is convinced that "growth in the Oil & Gas sector is absolutely guaranteed.” This is an industry in which HIMOINSA has positioned itself as a trustworthy, safe and experienced partner,   as evidenced by the hundreds of projects awarded to HIMOINSA's North American subsidiary HIPOWER in the most important oil and gas extraction plants in Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, North Dakota, Alaska, Pennsylvania, Mississippi, Colorado and Ohio.

Hiram Ojeda, General Manager of Red-D-Arc in Mexico, points out that the energy generation market in the Mexican rental sector is eyeing initiatives such as the Ethylene XXI project in Coatzacoalcos and Laguna de Pajaritos in Veracruz, regarded as the most important project of the last 20 years in the Mexican petrochemical industry. “The diesel generator rental market in this country is very volatile but we are taking part in important negotiations and will be involved in major projects for which we will be putting our faith in HIMOINSA generator sets," Ojeda adds.

Founded in 1982, HIMOINSA is a multinational specialising in the manufacture of generator sets and lighting towers now positioned in over 100 countries on the five continents thanks to its internationalisation policy. It has production centres in Brazil, the United States, Spain, China, India and France and commercial subsidiaries in Mexico, Panama, Argentina, Portugal, Angola, the United Kingdom, Germany, Poland, the United Arab Emirates and Singapore.

HIMOINSA's subsidiary in Mexico saw its rental market sales jump by 90% in 2013. Mexico is currently experiencing a surge in demand prompted by the reform of its energy sector and HIMOINSA's rental sales in the country are expected to rise by 50 % in 2014.
